The Japan Interest Group (JIG) of the Connectivity Standards Alliance (Alliance), an international standards organization developing IoT connectivity standards, is pleased to announce that it will exhibit with 23 companies in the Digital Living Transformation Pavilion at CEATEC 2026, one of Japan’s largest comprehensive exhibitions for digital innovation.
Organized by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), CEATEC 2026 will be held at Makuhari Messe from Tuesday, October 13 to Friday, October 16, 2026.
In line with CEATEC’s mission, the Digital Living Transformation Pavilion will showcase a wide range of technologies and services related to smart homes and everyday living. The pavilion aims to promote co-creation toward further market development and contribute to the realization of individual and societal well-being, a key theme of Society 5.0.
At CEATEC 2025, JIG introduced Matter, the global standard for smart homes, marking the Alliance’s first public presentation of the standard in Japan. Building on that milestone, CEATEC 2026 will mark the first presentation of Aliro in Japan, introducing the next-generation standard for digital access credentials to both industry professionals and the general public. Through this exhibition, the JIG aims to further accelerate the adoption of Matter and Aliro in Japan and contribute to the growth and development of the Japanese smart home market.
Exhibition Highlights
At the venue, JIG will hold interoperability demonstrations featuring Matter-compatible devices from participating companies, giving visitors a firsthand look at how smart devices from different manufacturers and categories can work seamlessly together through a single standard.
JIG will also showcase Aliro, a standard for digital access credentials designed to enable interoperability between smartphones, smart locks, and access control systems. Visitors will be able to experience Aliro’s hands-free unlocking feature, which lets users unlock a door simply by approaching it — without the need to remove a smartphone from a pocket or bag.
The number of participating co-exhibitors has grown from 19 last year to 23 this year — a 21% increase — underscoring rising industry interest in Japan. JIG brings together companies with a shared interest in Japan’s IoT market, working together to strengthen global collaboration and deliver technologies and solutions tailored to the specific needs of the market. In cooperation with the Alliance’s global marketing team, JIG actively takes part in exhibitions and speaking engagements throughout Japan to raise awareness of Matter and Aliro, and its participation in CEATEC 2026 represents an important step toward that goal. Now in its third year of operation, JIG has 80 participating companies, steadily expanding its operational foundation in Japan.

The Dawn of the AI Home Era: “The Next-Generation Smart Home Opened Up by Matter and Aliro”
A future where the home merges with AI is nearly here. Drawing on the smart home standard Matter and the new smart lock standard Aliro, this session brings together home appliance/housing equipment manufacturers, smart home platform providers, and a popular YouTuber to explore the latest technology trends and how everyday life is set to change, offering a real look at the coming era of the AI home. Tobin Richardson, President and CEO of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, will also travel to Japan to join this session.

Media-Only Special Briefing: “Latest Trends in Matter and Aliro, and Exhibit Highlights”
On the same day as the conference session, Fumi Shingai, Chair of the Connectivity Standards Alliance Japan Interest Group, will present an overview of the international smart home standard Matter and the international smart lock standard Aliro.
How far has Matter adoption progressed, and how are compatible products and services expanding? How will Aliro change the experience of locks and access control going forward? This 30-minute session will cover the basic mechanisms and latest developments of each standard, along with their potential in the Japanese market, together with a look at what’s on display at the JIG booth.

Connectivity Standards Alliance Japan Interest Group
The Japan Interest Group of the Connectivity Standards Alliance is a voluntary group of companies committed to advancing global IoT standards. Supporting the mission of the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the Japan Interest Group focuses on driving innovation and the adoption of key technologies, particularly Matter and Aliro, in the Japanese market. Composed of companies with a strong interest in Japan’s IoT landscape, the Japan Interest Group fosters global collaboration while addressing the unique needs of the local market through tailored technologies and solutions. In close coordination with the Alliance’s global marketing team, the Interest Group actively participates in exhibitions and speaking engagements across Japan to raise awareness of Matter, Aliro, and other Alliance technologies.
